World Bean Roasters

My husband and I have been taste testing some Organic Fair Trade freshly roasted coffee beans lately...and...it is very tasty! As you can see, in my hands I happen to have Nicaragua and Ethopia Yergacheffe certified organic coffee beans which I received from Julia who happens to be not only a dog lover but the founder and roaster of World Bean Roasters located in Culpeper, VA. What Julia does is purchase her small companies beans grown and harvested by small farmers worldwide then roasts and packages the beans herself for you to enjoy! So by drinking this coffee you are supporting Fair Trade which means that you just helped support a coffee bean farmers family in Africa AND the small American business women who helped the farmer by importing, roasting and packaging the beans right in the good ol' USA. This makes good sense and good coffee. Order some of these beans today! Julia personally sends your order out freshly roasted to your home or your coffee shop! Follow World Bean RoastHers on Facebook!
I just noticed the date of my blog article happens to be "Earth Day" - wow that's cool cause coffee grows from Mother Earth's rich soils!
Thanks for the Fair Trade t-shirt and coffee Julia!

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please make sure to keep coffee beans and coffee out of your pet's reach! It is only for human consumption. Julia's Chocolate Lab named Maui told me to tell you that. Now go give your dog a biscuit and a walk!

My Great Pyrenees pals

So I had a visit by my foster boy (the innocent looking one on the left of the photo with his massive paw on my leg) ...well he decided to take a 2.5 hike yesterday and just showed up in my backyard with muddy paws! Oops! Those are his famous words! (He said it was only to go find his buddy and bring him home safely cause that is what mountain rescue dogs do!) After a biscuit and some play chase around my yard (he is so funny) he then jumped into my SUV and enjoyed the car ride ...drooling all the way back home...2 hrs prior just before he broke free from his walk on his property his partner in crime (the one on the right side of photo) found a way out of the newly built coral and decided to go visit his girlfriend the chocolate lab also 2.5 miles down the road...these Great Pyrenees are masters of figuring out how to open and navigate when they want to take a hike on their own terms!

So when I chauffeured #2 back home #1 was already retrieved from his little rendezvous and back home as well and he asked me to please take care of something that was really annoying to him and hurting his ears, to please make that awful noise go away!  I asked him what it was and he quickly advised it was the sound of the squeaky wheel! I then understood what I had to do and fast! The Chinchilla in the corner of the garage in it's penthouse suite had a very big squeaky wheel indeed and so I showed the kids how to grease the wheel with something safe anytime they noticed the wheel getting noisy again. The trick was to just use vaseline on the bars of the wheel on each side and showed them how it magically made the high pitched squeaky noise go away and all was well with a nice and quiet wheel cause you must remember that dogs have a different decibel frequency in their ears that make them more sensitive then our human ears! Also both big muddy boys were safely back home...until next time they decide to make a disa-pyrenees adventure!

RESCUE FOSTER ADOPT

"Let me place my paw on your heart so that you will know that I too feel emotions just like you - let me comfort you." ~the dog via Sophie

This is my dog/animal rescue page where I will post updated pics and info on dogs that need fostered and adopted in my local area that I have met personally and communicated with, etc. The hard truth is that ALL OF THEM sadly are in the very-limited-time-low-vacancy "animal shelters" aka "the dog pound" that do euthanize (so please remember "shelter" does not always mean it is a "sanctuary" unless it specifically says NO KILL SHELTER! There are sometimes a few lucky souls that get rescued (their bail is made) and then they get placed into temp foster homes away from the confines of doggie prison. In that case there will be additional contact info regarding that particular dog. Although I wish I could, I can not help all of them I see in the shelters and it breaks my heart to see them behind bars through no fault of their own. I want to try to get them out of the confines of doggie prison into forever loving homes or at least into foster homes or with rescue groups, etc. because I sense they are worth saving and the shelters and rescue organizations need help spreading the word of wonderful animals that need a second chance to find a forever home. I also believe that there are other circumstances in which this can possibly help the animal i.e. What if the dog has traveled some distance and the pet parents have no idea how far and there are so many shelters to contact they find themselves at a loss of which ones they should call, etc. By posting the information online and networking together perhaps we can also not only help get animals out of shelters and into foster or adoptive homes but perhaps just maybe even help reunite families with their furry family members who have gotten lost a long way from home and need all of us to help in the lost and found pet alert mission...besides dogs do not have access to computers and have a hard time typing so they need us humans to help them out!

Lost or missing pet? I am available for hire as a Pet Detective.

As of my shelter visit on Sept  8th...

I'm still here! Please save me!

WHITE DOG with pretty collar. Stray but uh...there is a pretty collar on this neck so either it is abandoned or lost...either way this dog is very calm, acts like an old man, he is a boy with a lovely white coat but no one has bathed him in a long time cause he has flea poop under that snowwhite coat, not his fault, whoever the previous owner was did not take time to bath him. He is so calm he walks slowly and calmly on the leash. In fact he would be the perfect dog for an older couple or person. He does not jump, he does not bark, no whining, did his business outside when this volunteer took him out for potty. Is sad to be in the shelter, did not want to get back into his doggie cell but he did. He is a sweet boy and needs you to SAVE HIM NOW!!!! TIME IS LIMITED! Look at his snow white coat, like a baby seal or an artic fox, so cute! Look at that face! I would say this is a small-medium size dog, full grown. He needs someone to rescue him. He is friendly and social at the other dogs as he walks by he wants to stop and wag his tail at them and just say hello....what a laid back polite boy he is! Very calm. Excellent on leash manners!

FOSTER DOGS NEEDING ADOPTED INTO FORVER LOVING HOMES:
That means these dogs are in a home environment not in doggie prison, their lives were spared by either a rescue group specifically working with a type of breed or simply a good citizen that has compassion and the dog was then given extra attention (health/rehabilitation/observation etc.) and now are given more time to try to either find their lost original owners or be placed into a new home.

CHLOE - FEMALE HOUND
She was found wondering into a home owners property in emaciated condition then taken to the shelter to see if an owner claimed her, no owner came forth, she would surely have been euthanized in her condition so the original kind folks who found her picked her up and saved her from near death to give her more time. She is a very sweet gentle girl and gets along well with other dogs, horses and loves people! More information as well as contact information to be updated soon meanwhile just send me an email if interested in adopting her so I can pass info along via email. Chloe is in Southern Pines, NC area. I have met her personally and she is a sweetheart. She enjoys the companionship of being with people and other dogs.

Lost Missing Pets

MISSING PET PREVENTION TIPS:
Prevention is worth so much peace of mind. So before your pet vanishes here are some simple tips to follow now.

  • Never leave your pet outside unattended. Plain and simple.
  • Have your pet microchipped with an International I.D. chip implant and keep it up to date and check it periodically as chip implants are not 100% proof; sometimes the fail to work or perhaps the breeder said it was chipped but somehow your puppy in the litter was overlooked by mistake, etc. and now you are falsely lead to believe your pup is microchipped! There is also debate about how microchipping is perhaps not safe for the health of your dog. You'l have to google and determine that yourself.
  • Consider having your pet professionally tattooed on the inner thigh or stomach, just something small.
  • Every time your pet must go outside the house even just to use their own yard - place a comfy safe adjustable easy off and on type snap collar that has a secure reinforced I.D. tag there are also collars that you can have printed up with your phone number right into the collar or soft comfy bandana on your pet; this tells anyone that finds your pet that they more then likely do have a home, are more approachable and just got out or lost because let's face it, do you own a microchip scanner? Also this hopefully gives your pets more time if they should end up at a pound because scanners can fail and not work properly so if the pet has something on it like a collar then the pound will more then likely hold the pet longer then usual to wait for an owner to claim them even if no I.D. on the collar. You are buying time for your pet basically so it does not look like a stray! Along with the collar, have a visible up-to-date phone number on the tag on the collar!
  • Have your pet registered with your local city/county area where you reside. Local shelter or police dept. or city hall.
  • Keep up to date on digital color photos of your pet, better yet a pic of both of you together as proof you are the owner and that is your dog. Notate your dogs description as well.
  • Make sure your pet is neutered/spayed (helps curb wonderlust, aggression & unwanted pups/kittens).
  • Give your pet a reason to not leave you by fulfilling it's needs for DAILY long adventure walks and exploration and socializing with other dogs or else hire a dogwalker if you do not have the time.
  • Are you paying attention to your pets clues about feeding them the diet they want/crave? Seriously, if your dog has a history of wanting to get out and "hunt" wild game or the farmers livestock then perhaps you should consider a raw diet or just better food then commercialized-not regulated-not safe for human consumption-nasty dog food kibble! Listen to your dogs, they are trying to communicate when they show you what they prefer to eat by breaking out and chasing the food they desire!
  • If you know your pet can climb, dig under fences or jump fences then build higher sturdier secured fences and do not leave your pet unattended and DO NOT chain your pet! Use twice the amount of prevention, besides a tall sturdy fence/gate also use invisible fencing and make sure it works (that means keep batteries charged and the collars need to be on the dog in order to work!) Also for the diggers/escape artists/dogs with a history of getting out and chasing/attacking livestock/wildlife it is only a matter of time and just one more escape till a private property owner takes matters into their own hands to protect their own animals and sadly your dog will never return home! Make sure you secure the fencing professionally into the ground so the pets can not dig under it. Isn't your pet part of the family? Then keep it in the house to guard the house and have a job to do when you are not home! Pets do get stolen out of yards for various reasons; such as for laboratory experiments, bait dogs, someone that can not afford the particular breed you own they want, etc. Be diligent! Your pet is like a child, watch over it, do not get lazy or think it will not happen to you and your pets! A few minutes is all it takes for your dog to end up missing when you are not watching them! I am all too familiar with unhappy endings that happen time and time again in my personal line of work! It breaks my heart to see a sad outcome when I know just a little extra prevention/training could have prevented the permanent devastating loss of a beloved pet.
  • The domesticated cat does not really belong outdoors unless you live on a huge mass area no where near roads and need a mouse catcher for your barn. Still that barn cat is susceptible to disease and attacks by birds of prey, hunters, dogs, etc. Keep domestic cats INDOORS where they are safe from harms way of cars, humans, other animals, disease. The only cat living outside is a wild cat, a big cat, you know...a cougar, a panther, a mountain lion...you get the idea.
  • Train your pet recall using positive reinforcement and cookie rewards or hire a professional pet lifestyle dog coach to teach you and your pet recall!

LOST MISSING PETS:
If your pet still manages to get lost or is missing then you need to act fast in order to find your pet! The first few hours are crucial to your pets survival rate! Do not wait days to start searching or enlisting help!  Schedule an appointment NOW with a pet detective such as myself!

  • As soon as you realize your pet is missing, start looking on foot (your scent is important) and by vehicle (calling out and having someone with you as a look out) for your pet! Make haste! Ask neighbors to help, chances are they did not get far unless someone has picked them up but we are talking within the 1st hour or two!
  • Call your local pound/shelter, humane societies/pet rescue organizations and even those outside your county cause dogs do travel and some get picked up and taken to areas outside their neighborhood, local and surrounding police depts and give all your contact info and descriptions of your pets that are missing. Do this 1-2 x daily to help remind them and show you are serious about finding your pet. Also know many kill shelters get full fast and sadly sometimes pets and even trained police dogs, etc. have accidentally been euthanized or adopted out if not claimed within a few days! Those that have "issues" perhaps nervous or scared or no indication of being someones dog/cat have even less of a chance. It is ultimately up to YOU to find YOUR pet! Be diligent! This is a DAILY search! DO NOT GIVE UP CAUSE YOUR PETS DEPEND ON YOU TO FIND THEM!
  • Create LOST PET flyers that can stand rain/snow/wind; (put them in plastic covers such as in  large zippered plastic bags before posting them around town) and make then BIG enough to be easily read at stop signs, entrances to residential neighborhoods, dog parks, etc. Check them DAILY to make sure they are still visible. Ask your dog loving friends/neighbors to help scout for you!
  • Call local vet clinics, groomers, pet stores, local schools, businesses, homeowner associations, farmers, etc. and tell them your pet is missing, take them a flyer or email them info. Repeat daily!
  • Contact the local paper/radio stations. Some newspapers have online free missing pet and found pets sections, seek those out and utilize those resources!
  • This is the day of technology. Make a free blog which includes photos and info on your pets! Mass email that blog and ask others to help pass it along! Take advantage of social networking: i.e. Facebook & Twitter daily and ask others to help you in this urgent mission by passing along the information, seek out missing pet groups, etc.! Make sure to include a photo of your pet and how to contact you if they should locate your pet around town. DO THIS DAILY!
  • Hire a missing pet expert/pet detective or animal communicator aka pet psychic to try to help you in your search for clues. While there are no guarantees, every bit of help from other sources can potentially be a lead in locating your MISSING PET

Common Courtesy: Of course once your pet is located/identified please remove your flyers, let everyone know and make sure to thank everyone that helped. You may want to share your story with others of what happened as it could help another missing pet and their family in prevention procedures or in their search.

What do you do?

Hi, I'm Sophie and to make the world a happier place I will sum myself up with one title:

"Pet Lifestyle Expert"...however, let me break it down for you as I do not do/offer just one thing as my profession.

Here are some of the questions I get asked when I must give some sort of title for the gifts I share as my trade. Although I am not keen on titles, society seems to demand it! So to help educate I will briefly share my answers and explanations right here of what it is that I do.

Q: What is a Pet Concierge?

A: A Pet Concierge is a combination of unique personalized and professional petcare services that include but are not limited to:

  • Errand Runner
  • Pet SUV Shuttle
  • Doggy Daycare Provider
  • Dogwalker, Dog Coach that teaches humans how to implement positive play training/socialization with their pets and more!
  • Pet & Home Minding - That's fancy for petsitting/housesitting where I make visits to you and your pets home or barn just as if they were my pets. Your pets do not have to change their routine at all! There are NO cages/kennels NO choke chains/pronged collars/whips involved in my line of work! Your pet will not be lonely or depressed nor go hungry nor be bored when in my care, simple as that. Think of me as your pets guardian angel when you are not around. The whole idea is to keep your pets safe, healthy and stressfree when you are away with someone taking the role of pet parent who truly cares and provides you with peace of mind and your beloved pets with top notch daily extended private one on one attention! These services are very limited so book your consultation early so to see if I am available in your area.
  • Pick up items at the feed store and deliver them to your farm!
  • Meet and greet your pet at the airport
  • Pick up dog or cat food at the grocery store and deliver it to your door!
  • and so much more!
A: I facilitate communication and understanding between humans, animals and the spirit world! Why yes, I am an animal & spirit translator! Animal communication is also sometimes referred to as pet psychic but not by all animal communicators I am finding out although this does confuse me as honestly if you are able to communicate via telepathic means of communication with animals then hello you are intuitive aka pet psychic and must embrace this wonderful gift! I however am very much in touch with the spirit world and have no issues in telling you this, so you can refer to me in any of these categories that mean the same thing to me such as:

  •  Animal communicator
  • Pet psychic
  • Psychic medium
  • Spirit Messenger
  • Spiritual consultant
  • Intuitive consultant
  • Spiritual coach
  • Intuitive coach
  • Dog Whisperer - Horse Whisperer - Ghost Whisperer
  •  Lightworker
  •  Energyworker
I am sure there are plenty of other titles if you will.

Q: Do you work with LOST MISSING PETS?

A: Yes, on a case by case basis. Visit my Pet Detective page for more information.

Q: What does a Pet Photographer do?

A: Pet photography is self explanatory but I do more then that...as a digital freelance pet photographer I am still communicating with the animals in the photography session and everything is done in natural settings and not forced upon. I respect each animals wishes of on site location and how they are feeling and how they desire to be perceived through the camera lens. My photos are not staged but simply more of a documentary of their emotions captured on photos. I also include the entire family of pets and humans if desired so it truly is a family portrait I capture in photo CD and videography DVD. I offer visits to your house or horse barn or my retail studio location. I prefer to use natural settings with natural daylight more so then indoor lighting so no night appointments will be conducted outdoors. I perfer my appointments be between early morning and early afternoon and no rainy gloomy days please!

Q: What is a Dog Coach

A: Dog coaching is intriguing to people as this term is not highly used just yet but I prefer to use that rather then dog handler or trainer simply because I do not handle anything that does not want handled nor do I force train anything that does not want trained against it's free will. I show respect to each animal as each is it's own individual being and must be respected as such. I communicate every step of the way with the animals (as long as they want to communicate of course) and use only positive play training with rewards of treats and affection for achieving the results desired. It is amazing how love and communicating the way the animals communicate works wonders. Remember that communicating does not always mean using words. I use body language and telepathy all the time in my field of work with animals as this is how animals communicate all the time amongst themselves and to us, with the occasional bark or neigh or meow sounds of course but if you do not understand their vocal language then perhaps you should contact me to help translate between you and your pets! I am you and your canines personal dog coach;to transform you both into a winning team in the same household! I also help coach the human on many different things that have to do with living or traveling with dogs. I.E. Pet travel/PCS relocation with pets, Vacationing with pets, Setting up your home for you and your pets to live comfortably together, Preparing the home for a new pets arrival, Choosing the best pet for your lifestyle, etc.

Q: Do you work exclusively with dogs?

A: No. Although I specialize working with BIG dogs with my lifestyle dog coaching. I work with all shape and sizes of dogs! I communicate with all beings - living and passed on; humans, domesticated pets and/or farm animals such as: horses and/or wildlife, habitat or zoo animals/species/insects/reptiles/ocean creatures, etc. I am available to make barn visits and to visit animal sanctuaries as well.

Q: I would like to interview you for my newspaper/radio show/magazine/TV show. Would you be interested?
Q: I would like to ask you join our paranormal team as a guest psychic-medium. Would you be interested?
Q: Would you be interested in helping our animal shelter or pet related business or psychic shop with special events fund raisers?

A: Yes & yes & yes!  You can contact me via email or any of my social network sites listed in my blog.
