These pics are taken with Nikon after baby Robin was placed back into nest

The story: I was in the driveway unloading new patio cushions out of the Land Rover when I noticed out of the corner of my eye my puppy picking up something (nothing new) and I sensed the item my puppy picked up this time needed immediate attention as I yelled out a firm "DROP IT!" Out popped out a tiny baby bird not yet old enough nor feathered to be leaving the nest anytime soon. Took pic of bird with iphone camera, took puppy in, called my neighbors who happen to be wildlife biologist and asked for their advise on situation how to handle baby bird. They advised if I could reach bird nest and bird was still alive to place bird back into nest. I grabbed a washcloth, returned outside noticing mama bird on tree branch looking down at her baby and as I bent down to pick up baby bird it looked up at me and opened up it's beak so wide to say "FEED ME!" Sweet little soul and glad it had an appetite as this told me it was probably going to be OK from the fall....so I gently picked it up did not notice any blood or broken pieces then placed it back into nest with it's other 2 siblings. I went inside to grab my Nikon camera changing the lens to take close up pics and just observe. Mama bird was already bringing in food to babies and checking on her fallen baby when I returned outside with my camera.
Koa my 2 month old Golden Retriever pup at our lake at dusk

Conclusion: Upon assessing and triaging situation, it appears that the little Robin fell out of it's overcrowded small nest of 3 babies. The small nest was built in a tree in our front yard and not very far up into the tree. I also observed mama bird getting upset with me after taking a few photos, she started to squawk at me to get back because she did not want baby stressed anymore. I also noticed there were other birds concerned with the situation as well on the electric poles near the tree. It seems it might be a village of birds to raise the babies! Birds do care about their young and do feel emotions. Just go outside and observe for a while, get in touch with nature and appreciate the lovely song the birds make for us.

Follow up:

Friday: This morning baby bird still OK 36 hours later (incident happened Thursday around 6pm)...will keep observing this family of Robins as the nest is low in tree and I do not want neighbor cats nor any other wildlife to get to baby birds, hope they make it to adulthood with full set of feathers.

June 13-17 Follow up:
Baby birds have flown from the nest...I captured the last one as mama bird was watching over it as it was still learning to fly, she was so protective to care for her little one, to give it encouragement, guidance - what a good mama bird she is!

NEWS: August 4th, 2010 - noticed 3 MORE BABY BIRDS HAVE ARRIVED IN SAME NEST! It's hot so I have placed a bowl of cool water for mama bird at bottom of tree for her.

Aug 7th morning - I found a baby bird on the ground below the nest looking up at me that had fallen from the once again over crowded nest! Our eyes met, my heart melted and I told baby bird I meant it no harm and I was there to help it get back into it's nest with it's family so I gloved my hand and then carefully put the precious little trusting soul back into it's nest, this time mama was very quiet observing the whole thing and thanked me afterward with sweet chirps! Cute baby Robins! I am considering placing a bird house in this tree or creating a safety ledge for the next bird family!

Geocaching

One of my Facebook friends (classmate from when I was 13 yrs old!) keeps posting stuff about geocaching and I am thinking, is this some kind of new Pokemon thing with his kid or what? I finally get nerve to ask what it is and well here you go! The Youtube vid explains it!

and the Geocache website http://www.geocaching.com/  I think I could get hooked on this! Have GPS, love treasure picking, technology and dogwalking....hhhmmm this could be fun!

Quasi Kennel

Looking for a SAFE and FUNCTIONAL and GOOD LOOKING ALTERNATIVE
to the ugly crate or kennel, how about the annoying puppy gates you gotta jump over and block certain areas of the house and even some puppies can jump over?

I know how you feel...

Are you a groomer and wish to have a cageless type environment for your grooming salon that customers prefer to see so their dogs are not held prisoners in tiny metal cages getting stressed out on their beauty spa day?

Is your puppy or small dog recovering from surgery and needs a safe place to relax yet not feel left out and hidden away from everyone in the house and still wants to be able to see you and be pet easily...is your puppy trying to get on your furniture or worse yet trying to eat the furniture or other things besides their doggy toys when you walk into another room and leave pup unsupervised for even just a few moments...

LOOK NO FURTHER - THE ANSWER IS HERE!
It's called a QUASI-KENNEL and it's a wooden puppy playpen!

The Quasi~Kennel has this dog coach and my Golden Retriever puppy Koa's paw of approval!

Why? Here are just some of the reasons:

  • Koa was able to climb the ASPCA approved puppy gate I purchased at a discount store.
  • Koa is trying to climb the ladder as I paint.
  • Koa wants to jump, climb and explore as much as he can, he acts like a combination of Buzz Lightyear & Indiana Jones!

Are you starting to see a pattern here? Alas! The Quasi~Kennel keeps Koa from jumping/climbing out of his safety zone! It works like magic. OK not really magic, it was the thought process of an engineer with a PhD that figured out some really cool concepts. If the pup tries to jump on the 4 sides of the QK then it slightly shifts/rocks/moves and well dogs do not like that uneasy feeling so they stay off of it! The bottom of the QK stays stable though and has a very sturdy water repellent padding with very soft suede like plush removable cover which is machine washable! Think of it this way: A puppy is just like a toddler, they want to get into EVERYTHING because it's part of their learning process of exploration but you want to keep an eye on them all the time and make sure they stay safe and when you must turn your back and work on a project yet allow pup to still see you (which makes them happy) then it is best to put that little explorer in a safety zone such as a playpen! (Note: this QK is being referred to as a playpen by myself in description but it is not intended for humans. Just want to make it clear that this is a playpen/topless kennel designed for canines only!)
Order a QK for your dog today! Quasi~Kennel or QK is the puppy playpen for the decadent pet parent or groomer or vet clinic who desires an attractive yet safe place for their pet in the home or place of business. Why settle for the ugly crate or gates when you can have a Qausi~Kennel like the one pictured here, which comes in 2 hardwood colors: your choice of honey or espresso. The one I have in my home pictured here is the honey, it compliments my Golden's haircolor and my floors and kitchen cabinets perfectly!
Koa, a 2 month old 20 lb Golden Retriever, has his QK delivered and set up by the co-founder engineer Aubrey himself! Wow! Thanks Aubrey, you dog person you! (I must note that if you order the QK the founder nor co-founder will not be able to deliver and set up, it just so happens that the co-founder is my neighbor).

Koa says: Hey what's this? What's going on? ...Hey this is a cool puppy playpen! Comfy soft cover and I can still see everything happening around me and have lots more room then a crate! Wow this is great! See me curious and smiling?

MY PERSONAL FIELD TESTER FOLLOW UP: As you can see from these photos, Koa has finally outgrown his QK. at 20 wks and 50 lbs. Koa is a Golden Retriever puppy, he was very comfortable in his QK up to the age of 20 wks/50 lbs weight and was not able to jump out of it still at this size and age, he just got too big to lift in and out any longer and his body/legs are still growing as he is a large breed dog. My personal testing of this item concludes that the lovely QK would be a perfect addition pleasing to the eyes and easy to clean for the indoor-keep-your-pets-as-part-of-your-family-type-breeder, cageless groomers, vet clinics, business owners that want to keep their pets with them while at work but not allow pets to run loose throughout office. It is also great for everyday pet owner with either puppies or small to medium breed adult dogs under 50 lbs. The QK gave me peace of mind for night time sleeping arrangements and when I had to run errands, etc, where I  was not able to take Koa with me and had to leave him at home unsupervised. I highly recommend this excellent craftsmanship pet product. Purchase one from me today!

Koa the Golden Retriever

It took us 5 weeks to finally decide on a proper name for our Golden Retriever Puppy Robbins aka Puppy No-Name. So we would like to formally announce to the world to meet:

*~*~*~* KOA ROBBINS *~*~*~*
Koa [koh' (w)ah]  is a traditional Hawaiian name which means "bold, brave, fearless - a warrior". Koa were the ancient Hawaiian Warriors known as the Elite Hawaiian Special Forces of their time! Well, this fits our Golden Retriever boy's personality perfectly! He has also demonstrated to us that he is also very good at agility as he has much strength and a bodacious Golden personality! He is also sometimes a vocal boy and very smart. I seriously wanted to name him Focker but my family members were a bit embarrassed to try that name out loud and when I did I had a few heads turn my way in astonishment all wide eyed with raised eyebrows! So now we wait and watch Koa grow into his cute big floppy Golden ears and big paws!

Follow Koa's adventurespics/updates/musings/gigs on his Facebook Profile & Dogbook page Also, follow his dog agent/pet parent Sophie on Facebook & Twitter !

Koa is a featured promotional puppy model seen in this Quasi~Kennel advertisement with one of the co-founders of the product! Check back soon as he will also be staring in his 1st promotional marketing video too! Make sure to tell all your pet parent friends, groomers, breeders, vets, etc. about the QK link so they know where to purchase this amazing crate alternative must have item!)

Koa is also a promotional puppy model for Muttpuppets!

Koa says he is ready to face the world and if any magazines, newspapers, companies, blogs or movie and/or TV commercial producers would like to feature him for promotional modeling, acting and wish to interview him or have him or his pet parent field test their pet friendly products such as beds, leashes, collars, coats, etc. then please do contact his agent/dog coach/personal photographer (that would be his pet parent mom - Sophie) by sending an email to: Sophieandcompany@yahoo.com

Golden Retrievers are water dogs, they have webbed feet and a double water repellent coat, having a lake or beach or pool is a good idea if you plan on having a Golden Retriever as water keeps them happy and fit -  also they have no problems taking walks in the rain with you! Water is one of their favorite pastimes besides tennis balls that is! This breed makes a loyal companion and family pet and will give you many comical scenes throughout their lifetime. This breed is extremely intelligent and also known as the velcro dog cause they want to be around you all the time and shadow you from room to room just to get a chance to lay at your feet and be with you. They enjoy daily walks/hikes and an evening movie with you. Want a social butterfly, want an easy to train dog, thinking of Search and Rescue or Therapy work with your dog? Get a Golden Retriever as part of your world!

MISSING PET ALERT!

This is my MISSING PET ALERT blog page where I will list information on a case by case basis as I am working on my pet detective cases as long as the client wants me to make it public knowledge which of course is in their best interest because getting the message alert out there is crucial to finding answers. So keep this in mind when hiring me, I use all valuable resources available! Keep in mind however, that I do adhere to client confidentiality with utmost respect. I also help with found pets trying to reunite them with their rightful owners.

Hire Sophie The Intuitive Pet Detective to work on your missing pet case.

Check back often as information changes and pet cases change too so this page will update per missing pet case!

Local paper info LOST & FOUND PETS section (keep checking cause it sometimes takes a while for it to update)

Check over photos of dogs on my RESCUE FOSTER ADOPT blog page, perhaps a missing pet has been picked up by animal control and is now awaiting you to find it but hurry up they only get so long to be held then they are up for adoption/fostered, sent to a no kill shelter or rescue group or if shelter is full then the animal will be placed on a "E" list which simply means euthanized (put down, killed) so do not waste time and call the shelter daily, better yet go to the shelter daily looking for your dog cause not everyone describes dogs the same to one another and a mistake could take place in misidentification! DO NOT WASTE TIME! Remember: It is YOUR responsibility to look after your beloved pet not someone else's! Keep in mind, no one cares more about your pet then YOU!

Geese and a Golden

(download)

The Canadian geese just flew over our heads and came in for a landing on our lake...lovely honking sound they make of announcing their arrival..pup watched them fly in then did not seem bothered by their calls. This is his first time seeing Geese but will not be the last as we live amongst a bird sanctuary on seven lakes! This is the good life of a water loving, bird watching Retriever!

Puppy teeth

Aaawwww my puppy looks like a cute little bunny rabbit...but don't let these teeny tiny puppy teeth fool you as they are razor sharp and can do some damage to things like furniture, shoes, clothes, hands, arms, feet...ouch! Puppies go through a teething stage and everything-to-the-mouth-exploratory learning just like human toddlers do so make sure to provide plenty of chew dog toys for your pup...all over the house and in your car! Everytime you catch pup chewing/biting on something he is not suppose to chew on make a loud noise or firmly say NO!" like you really mean it! Then remove pup from item and entice pup to chew on a dog toy instead! When they do chew on their toys let them know they are being a good boy/girl. Just remember that you do not always want to be saying just "NO!" to your pup but what you want to do is also encourage and enforce all the good behavior as well.
A really cool inexpensive dog toy we have is called a Squirrel Dude
which is a purple color in a thick rubber material and on one end is a hole where you stick tiny treats into it (yes, basically you are shoving doggy treats up the squirrel toys arse.) Once you have "prepped" Squirrel Dude with healthy treats then show your puppy how it works; that if you move it around at one point you will finally retrieve a delicious surprise treat to eat! This is very stimulating exercise for your dog and keeps them busy.

Here is my iPhone created video of Squirrel Dude with puppy...

Another good chew dog toy for all ages, pup to adult chewer is the Nylabone Galileo bone, it comes in 3 sizes that I am familiar with: petite, wolf, souper. I order mine through Amazon but you can sometimes also find them in pet stores.
We just got a new Galileo dog chew bone recently for our pup in petite size which is perfect size for this big puppy's tiny mouth/teeth right now and as he gets bigger he will graduate to the Souper size. (That's how they spell it BTW). Our late beloved Golden Retriever loved his Souper Galileo dog chew bone but our new Golden pup does not seem to be as interested in it as much just yet...instead, he is more interested in stuffed toys at the moment and wanting to chew on his toy basket and other things he is not suppose to chew on like my wooden chairs legs I am sitting on right now as I type... HEY! "NOoooo!" "NO!"

Big Bone dog toy

My 9 week old Golden Retriever puppy loves (I mean really LOVES it if you catch my drift) this HUGE dog bone stuffed toy, it is clearly bigger then he is right now but he still manages to drag it around!
Video caught on iPhone.

This big plush bone shaped dog toy was a hand me down from our beloved late Golden Retriever.

Puppy weekend adventures

Puppy Robbins had a busy weekend!  (we are still trying to figure out his name hey these things take time!)

In the morning, he visited a local grooming pet accessories shop, hoping for a puppy romper room gathering which never happened cause we were the only ones that showed up...but he did get a complimentary nail trimming...

He also visited with the really nice shop owner, 2 groomers, a busy dog washer and got an entire tour of the store...
Since the bowl (for sale) was empty on the display retail shelf ...he decided to help himself to a floor sample...

This is Flint Ridge dry dog food...he seems to like it! The shop owner gave him a sample goodie bag to take home...and some treats too!

Then later in the late afternoon he went to Springfest in his village and made friends with the local cops and the firefighters that were grilling hamburgers. He met lots of people that would not let us walk a foot without wanting to pet him and made new 3 dog friends there!
Myrtle is the big white gentle therapy dog that was saved by her painter dad when he found her near death along side a road and Hunter is the Spaniel that was rescued from someone throwing him out of a car abandoning him...

This is Ozzy also a rescue that belongs to the cool Wildlife Biologists couple in our neighborhood...

Did I mention Golden Retrievers are very social butterflies and know how to make friends?
