dog tags

Koa the promotional dog model and I personally field tested a Boomerang dog collar tag!

Here are the results:

Outstanding! Must have item for your pets collar! You can have tag printed to read whatever you want within a certain amount of space of course, it will not dangle loosely with potential of possibly getting stuck in places or being pulled off, it will not dangle and play a loud annoying jingle every time your dog moves, therefore it is a silent dog tag (oh the peace), and it looks good too and most of all it serves as a form of communication for your pet to get back in touch with you should it wonder off and get lost or be in some sort of unfortunate mishap.

Keep in mind that the implanted microchips are not 100% proof and some people that pick up pets do not normally carry around a chip reader & may not take them to a vet or shelter to have it checked...however...they will be able to read a Boomerang I.D. tag with your up to date contact info on it! Since this particular tag is guaranteed for the life of my pet and the fact that we are military and move often I thought it was best to not only have my phone number on the tag but also my blog website address so I am reachable via email or my social network resources no matter if my phone number or address changes! Also note that I decided not to have my dogs name on his collar because this also gives me another way to prove this is my dog. He knows his name and will respond to it. I wanted to make a simple and direct statement with what was on my dogs I.D. tag. as you can see here.
Pictured here is the 1 inch adjustable dog collar I.D. tag on Koa size Large
Pictured here is what the adjustable dog tag looks like from the underside of the plastic snap type collar I prefer to use as shown. Personal preference: buckle collars are just too time consuming not to mention difficult for those of us with arthritic hands. Snap buckle is so much easier and just makes sense to me but hey that's another blog post another time!
and the whole collar which has room for Koa to grow...and he will...fast!

I originally noticed the Boomerang dog collar tag for the first time ever on two lovely rescued well behaved Great Danes at a dog park this summer and had to find out more about these tags that peaked my interest and why had I not known about them before, I had to find out more, I had to have one! Once I received the Boomerang tag, I placed this good looking heavy duty dog tag on our 5 month old Golden Retriever pup Koa's new 1 inch big boy collar. (he is a large breed dog still growing so I chose the Large size but keep in mind that Boomerang makes all sizes for all size dogs/cats/pets). I was a tad sad he had just grown out of his Life is Good puppy collar though. I am hoping maybe we'll receive some awesome big boy collars to promote to go with our awesome BOOMERANG big boy dog tag! (this is a subliminal hint to any 1" dog collar creators out there oh and it must be waterproof and washable, we are rugged).

OK back to the story...we recently took a family road trip and went hiking in the mountains where we all got soaked walking a trail by an unexpected summer thunderstorm. The dog tag held up wonderfully, never fell off, (it is VERY secure), and did not rust nor fall off nor fray the collar nor slip around on the collar. I highly recommend this pet I.D. tag to anyone with pets. This collar tag leaves all other tags in the dust!

Carthage Animal Hospital

Meet my dog Koa's veterinarian Dr. Tim Boyte
Dr. Tim is the founder/owner of Carthage Animal Hospital Vet Clinic in Carthage, NC. It is located very near the Humane Society of Moore County and the Animal Center of Moore County where NC Hwy 22 and NC Hwy 501 merge. Very centrally located near Whispering Pines and Pinehurst. I highly recommend this vet as he has a wonderful energy field and has a friendly staff that always makes you feel welcome in person and on the phone with genuine Southern hospitality!

These photos were taken during my Golden Retriever puppies first official vet exam and 2nd boosters.  Since Dr. Tim (as everyone around town seems to refer to him) does not have a website nor blog I asked him if I could put him on my blog. He said sure with a big friendly yet humble smile on his face and a good chuckle. I suggested to him he get on Facebook and Twitter. Dr. Tim says when he leaves the clinic he likes to ride his New Holland tractor and spend time outdoors with his family and many pets so he has not had time to create a website just yet or to get on Twitter or Facebook which I advise he really should! I'd say Dr. Tim is a friendly country doctor in touch with Mother Nature for sure! I plan to interview Dr. Tim in the future in a Q&A session so check back again for when that gets posted! I look forward to finding out just how many pets he has! Meanwhile, I managed to meet his mother Jan who is an artist and happens to have a crafty type gift shop next door to the vet clinic called Country Cottage Gifts & Things and she advises his sister has a hair salon next door to her and I think I heard that Dr. Tim's wife has plans to have a bookstore in another shop in that same building in the future! I think it is beginning to look like a Boyte Building to me! I'll have to explore and blog about the shops next to the vet clinic and what they offer another time.

If you are new to area and seeking a truly compassionate, knowledgable vet for your dog or cat that makes you AND your pet feel special every time you call or come in then make an appointment with this awesome clinic!

Vinegar

Vinegar is amazing and has many useful ways to be used that is pet & eco friendly around your home!

I find new uses for Vinegar all the time it seems but here are just a few ways that I personally use Vinegar regularly throughout my home for myself, my family and my pets!

Forget those toxic chemicals to unclogged your bathtub or bathroom sink drains! Here is the natural safe all natural recipe I personally use and it works for me and saves on the pocketbook and the environment too.

To clean my sinks and tubs what I do is pour down the drain this concoction of equal parts: (you decide how much you need to use and in my household I find it economical to buy the BIG boxes of everything as shown in my photo!

  • baking soda
  • course kosher salt or seasalt
  • white distilled vinegar - then let it do some magic! (it bubbles up like a witches potion or Science experiment! Totally cool!)
  • then rinse with hot water! Repeat as necessary!
I find when using this solution to unclog my drains the bubbly action also brings up the nasty clogged hair, so make sure to look in drain after it settles from it's magic bubbling and remove hair gook that has risen from the nasty depths of Clogville then repeat again for a nice clean fresh rinse :D I also use this same mixture to clean the tub/shower with a sponge. To clean my floors I use vinegar/water mixture. Natural disinfectant and no more bleach stains on your clothes! I also use vinegar as a softener in my laundry sometimes to freshen things up and also as a prewash in the front loader wash machine. Vinegar has many wonderful uses and has friends to help like baking soda and salt and water!

PET TIP: Recently through some knowledgeable sources of mine giving me this tip - I am personally conducting some independent field research where I add 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar to my dogs dish breakfast or dinner meal from time to time. The fleas seem to hate it and ticks do not seem to want to latch on! HA! VINEGAR ROCKS! Consult with your holistic vet if unsure of amounts or look it up from trusted resources first to determine amount to use in your dogs diet, etc.

Here are some Vinegar resources found on the web but I am sure you can find more by googling Vinegar as an all natural disinfectant or Vinegar Uses or green cleaning or non toxic cleaning, etc.

I must add that you are to use Vinegar and other items mentioned in this blog post of mine at your own risk. I am not being endorsed by any of the companies/manufacturers of the items photographed but if those companies want to send me more vinegar, baking soda and salt - then I am interested so please do contact me!

I love vinegar!

Rolling Dog Ranch

Beautiful human beings truly are out there...two Saints happen to be in Montana, no wait they have recently moved their ranch to New Hampshire....I do not know them personally but I love who they are, what they do. The animals they have saved sure love them. Their extraordinary animal rescue ranch survives on donations. The least I can do is blog awareness for them and the animals they give a 2nd chance at a good loving life they all deserve!

Enjoy a photo of my Golden puppy Koa as he runs through the wooded path up a hill to our lake...all dogs should be this lucky...

Merrell

Pictured above you see our Golden Retriever pup Koa "inspecting" our Merrell shoes:

However, one little problem with the womens black colored sandals...the black seems to stain my feet, especially if they get wet/moisture (hey I am not afraid to walk in the rain or through streams/rivers!) From the bottom of my foot to the top part where the straps go, it makes my feet look dirty - so even though the black goes with everything and it is my first choice, in the future I would go with a lighter color for this sandal just because of the stain factor.
As you can see, I am soaking wet in this photo where I and my dog got caught in a serious downpour walking The Last of The Mohicans movie trail (lots of mud, water and rocks/tree roots to walk over) to get to Hickory Nut Falls in Chimney Rock, NC in my Merrells. The sandals dry out fast and do not fall apart! Even when wet they are still incredibly comfy and have a good grip on slippery surfaces as I have put them to the test walking along river banks, through forested muddy trails with large rocks and tree roots and to waterfall landings!

Moore Labs

A Labrador Retriever Rescue called MOORE LABS founded in 2010 in Moore County in Southern Pines, NC is now on Facebook!

While at the local Dog Park I was able to meet and observe one of the labs up for adoption recently, her name is Maggie, she is a lovely big black lab female about a year young with a lovely bit of white on her chest. Here are candid natural setting photos I captured of her while observing her at the local dog park; she did great socializing around people and other dogs as you can see from the photos she had a great time being around good people and other dogs including my puppy Koa! I noticed when I and my puppy and some others first approached from a few feet behind her entering the watering hold area which I call the doggie river oasis - her tail went down between her legs in a timid fashion but quickly she managed to overcome her fear of things around her and paid close attention to her loving foster mom and did just fine. I never heard a bark or growl out of her, just a curious big puppy finally seeing what the good life is all about! What a nice dog, she just needs a second chance at being loved as it seems the begin
ning of her life someone was not very nice to her. A little love goes a long way in rehabilitation!

funny signs

This page will be where I post signs I personally find amusing on my many travels along the way with my camera...

Photography by Sophie with either a Nikon camera or an iPhone. Please do not take my copyrighted photos but you can share my blog link as much as you like for others with a good sense of humor to check out my blog page...check back every once in a while as I will keep adding more pics - thanks.

I actually spotted all of them...

We drove slowly but did not see the old cat...

This was somewhere either in Germany or France, WTH? Plant dog here? I dunno...

Oh Brother Where Art Though? Well, I think the Soggy Bottom Boys live on this road! AHA!

Still trying to figure this one out?...scroll down...

Nothing like making things perfectly clear, you have been warned!

well...

Ohhhhhh...so that's what goes on in the horse barn!

Wait, was I suppose to get a Terrier with that Latte?

OK, so do I drop the kids off with a bottle of ketchup?

I actually got out of the car and tried to fix the sign but it did not want to stay upright and then I realized it was much funnier hanging sideways anyway!

FInally, one for a dog rather then the children, we need a sign like this in my neighborhood, we really do have a deaf dog on the next street!

My car radio speaks to me and asks me questions...yes car you are sexy, go on with your bad self.

I kept hearing Aretha singing...

Why is there never a street sign that reads ALIVE BEGINS?

Paranormal coffee anyone?

Do what with your berries?!

Be afraid, be very afraid cause...the driveway might attack you?
